The city edition uniforms are here for the 2023-24 season and they are not as bad as people seem to think (not saying they’re good but not as dreadful as people are making it seem). Just like every other year, I am going to rank them.
30. Wizards
The pink uniforms last season were just so great and there was no need for the Wizards to dump them, especially since these are what they are replacing them with. These are up there with the worst uniforms I ever have seen.
29. Pelicans
These stink. The colors make no sense and they stink. I have nothing else to add.
28. Clippers
There are no words. The effort is awful, did they even try? Is it that hard to have a red jersey?
27. Nets
These are dreadful, you can’t even see the name and number on the back. Bring back the red, navy, and white color palette.
26. Hawks
Let’s start with the colors, why are they black, baby blue, and cream colored? I think that is the Georgia font with the ‘atl’, which is funny but boring.
25. Heat
The jersey saying 'Heat Culture' is so corny, and the uniform stinks even if it did not say 'Heat Culture.' So simple every where but the lettering, where it is very chaotic. Also, the logo on the shorts is too big and is too white. At least the number font the players have won't be different like the past 2 seasons.
24. Pistons
The vibe of the shorts and the jersey do not match. The shorts have a late ‘80’s early ‘90’s Bad Boys feel to them and the jersey does not have that. They should definitely get Bad Boys uniforms at some point.
23. Bulls
Last year, I ranked the Bulls far too high and I will not make that same mistake this year. It is so easy to make great Bulls uniforms and they come out with this. The jersey is weird, why is the lettering on the side? The shorts have the same problem as Miami, the logo is too big and too white.
22. Bucks
The Bucks need to stop wearing blue uniforms. Maybe I am just traumatized from the amount they used the blue court last season but I want them to never wear blue again.
21. Grizzlies
The ‘MEM’ is a cool idea but they should use a navy and yellow look like they did in 2021-22 but with more yellow involved. I am not a fan.
20. Raptors
I think I asked for gold as the base last season but I do not like these, stop with the black and gold look, it has been overused and was not good to begin with. Purple is right there!
19. Pacers
These were originally at the bottom of the barrel when I first drafted this list but they have moved up to the middle of the pack. These are not so bad.
18. Spurs
The fiesta uniforms were so great and these are not great! They are not awful but teams need to stop getting rid of great uniforms for not great uniforms.
17. Warriors
Why is the ‘San Francisco’ curved upwards at the end? I actually really like these other than that. The lining on the shorts is really cool!
16. Nuggets
People hate these and the altitude part of this is corny but these are not bad uniforms. I like the placement of the front number and the mountains on the jersey are cool.
15. 76ers
The ‘City of Brotherly Love’ is a fun concept and the navy works. However, the numbers are weird and I dislike how they wrote ‘City of Brotherly Love’ on the jersey.
14. Lakers
Black Lakers uniforms always rule. However, why is the N in Angeles so high up? It looks super weird but the yellow lettering and purple number works.
13. Thunder
I hated these but then I saw them on the court and really liked them. They are navy, not black, and that is a big deal. The images on the jerseys are cool too.
12. Suns
The shorts stink but the jersey rules. The ‘El Valle’ in cursive is great and the numbers are cool too.
11. Celtics
The Celtics have one of the top 5 home and road, or association and icon, sets in the league, so people do not like it when they wear any sort of an alternate. However, I like these, the color and font are good and I like the different stripes on the sides.
10. Mavericks
At first glance these look black or gray, but they are, in fact, navy. Which, for me, changes a lot of them because it looks great with the different blues.
9. Kings
These are fantastic. The blue base with the white stripe where it says ‘Kings’ to the red and gray throughout the uniform. I am a fan.
8. Knicks
These are great, the blue with black side panels, the pinstripes, and the ‘NYC’ under the Nike logo, it all is awesome. The only gripe I have is the lettering, why is there such a space between the white and orange parts?
7. Timberwolves
I am a fan, last year’s city uniform stunk and these are an upgrade. While they are not as good as the 2021-22 Wolves City Edition, I like how they represent Minnesota’s lakes.
6.Trail Blazers
A clean look here for Portland. The plaid lettering and belt are a very good look and so are the cream numbers. A stripe on the shorts would go a long way but I am a fan. Plus ‘Rip City’ on the front will always sucker me in.
5. Hornets
Another good one. The differing teals are a good mix with the gold lining separating them. I am glad they did not go overboard with pinstripes too because that would not have worked.
4. Cavaliers
So many people dislike these and I do not get it. The color is good, the collar is cool, the belt of the shorts are a darker red than the base, and I love when they have ‘The Land’ which is placed well too. These are a hit to me.
3. Magic
Let’s start with the star replacing the A in ‘Orlando,’ it rocks. I like the base color, the font is good, the bottom of the shorts are great, and they nailed it with the pinstripes. I am a huge fan.
2. Jazz
Take notes (ha, the Jazz’s slogan) Raptors because the purple looks great. The mountains at the top are fantastic, the touches of black work, and the stripe on one side of the shorts with the music note on the other is fantastic.
1. Rockets
Love how it reads ‘H-Town’ on the front and it is a great font. The representation of the ‘80s Houston Cougars teams is very cool and the astronaut dunking on the shorts is very cool too, 10 out of 10.
While they are not a great batch, the overall group of this year’s City Edition uniforms are not as bad as people are making it out to be.
